INSET Training for PSHE Provision
Personal, Social and Health Education is often viewed as a headache, a source of conflict and even with derision in some schools. Not taken seriously and incompetently taught, the subject can seem unnecessary and unimportant to staff and students. Worksheets passed on to unwilling Form Teachers with already formidable workloads are likely to produce lessons that are mainly going through the motions and inspire no one. Wellseeing PSHE 2 day Insets puts the subject in it’s rightful place - at the heart of the curriculum, and shows how if it is approached in a whole school way it can provide the answers to most school problems such as anti-social behaviour, bullying, low self-esteem and a lack of responsibility.

This Inset can be designed to support and develop current PSHE programmes or to advise on a variety of aspects associated with the subject, such as resources, delivery, and status as well as staff issues with confidence and competence.

Wellseeing starts with the staff, empowering and inspiring them with an understanding of the subject that places them in the driving seat for all future development of the subject. When teachers are committed and confident with the subject, then students attitudes change, which can ultimately lead to whole school transformation.

This particular INSET training is designed for those staff who are assigned responsibilities for the teaching and development of PSHE and for those who have a particular interest in the subject.

“I liked the democratic and open style you adopted and felt the structure of the training flowed in a logical and systematic way. It certainly increased my interest in developing PSHE.”
    Bernie Cox, KS4 Pastoral Co-ordinator

“I think Ondy was excellent. In these training days it is vital the tutor is of a high standard. Ondy really was able to make everyone feel relaxed and positive and managed to maintain a real focus over the two days. I have certainly benefited from having the time to think about and develop my understanding of PSHE. It was also very valuable to work with other staff in this way and share ideas in a productive way. It recharged my creative batteries!”
    Lee Darwell, Head of KS5

“The way you handled the group as a whole but allowed people to feel individual is a great skill. You can make the group feel at ease and comfortable but still extract the necessary stuff in an enjoyable way and keep everyone focused and on task. This INSET has renewed my confidence in using ‘gut feeling’ in my professional life - my gut feeling was that this was the type of approach that could have brilliant and inspiring results, a risk, but with the right person could achieve what I dreamed of.”
    Wendy Ellis, Director

“Your approach produced masses of information and co-operation from us all. If it worked for a group of grumpy teachers then it will definitely work for any age group of children! I liked the way you quietly directed us. You inspired us and let us run with our ideas but not to the stage that we were running round in circles! “
Alison Fox, Form Tutor and MFL teacher

“You had excellent "people" skills. We all felt valued, and my confidence bloomed in the supportive atmosphere you steadily cultivated ...And your caring personality brought warmth into the room. Thank you for such a wonderful 2 days, Ondy.”
    Jude Henthorn, Reception Teacher

“A splendid job was done to get a room full of teachers to agree on so much in such a short time. Your humour and ability to facilitate a room full of teachers was indeed impressive. I think the fact that you were so honest and open helped us to be the same.”
    Clare Mumby, Head of EAL

“You were not threatening, you never put anyone down. You encouraged people to speak and we never felt under pressure of time to move on before completely discussing a topic area. There was a business-like pace to proceedings, yet everything was conducted in a relaxed atmosphere that seemed to bring everyone together quite well. After this INSET I feel awakened to the potential power and usefulness of PSHE in the lives of schoolchildren.”
Gareth Pugh, Head of Secondary School
